When it comes to experiencing chills and thrills in the Himalayan icy peaks and passes, Auli mesmerises every traveller with its grace. My Auli experience was no less than sheer adventure imbued with joy.
Sightseeing at Uttarakhand’s Snow Capped Enchantment
Travel to Auli for me was lasting peace when experiencing green landscapes defined by surrounding coniferous oak forests. The Nar Parvat and Nanda Devi mountains radiated serenity, magnified by the presence of the Badrinath temple, Joshimath, and Kedarnath, some of the most revered Hindu pilgrimage sites.
The Gurso Bugyal, Kwani Bugyal, and Trishul peaks made me experience a sense of dominance at Himalaya’s high altitudes. Auli features numerous snow activities for an adventure-laden trip including zorbing, skiing, paragliding, ropeway ride and snow scooter riding.
Further, Rudraprayag and Nandaprayag confluences which define the seamless merging of holy rivers helped absorb the serenity of flowing water. Finally, the Chenab lake and Valley of flowers accounted for some of the most calming experiences at Auli.
Convenient Travel Paths to Reach Auli
Approximately 490 kilometres from New Delhi, your journey to Uttarakhand based India’s skiing capital can take anywhere between 15-20 hours. The overnight train from Delhi followed by cab pickup at Haridwar is a preferred travel path.
For air travel, the Jolly Grant, Dehradun airport, situated at 273 km from Joshimath and 17 km from Rishikesh forms the most convenient departure port towards Auli.
Preparing your December Journey to Auli
Auli is predominantly cool during the day, with lower night time temperatures. In December, I experienced progressively colder temperatures between 2 and 10 degrees Celsius, and even minus degrees, with consistent snowfalls. I recommend taking along, the right set of warm clothes during your December encounter with Auli.
Settling for a comfortable stay at Auli was easy at Clifftop Club, the best luxury ski resort in the proximity of my favourite skiing range. To add to the delight was our soothing bonfire experience on the terrace for New Year’s eve. Auli’s incredible dining options swept me off my feet, especially the Khatauli bypass based Cheetal Grand’s breakfast, en route to Auli.
Overall, Auli is the travel destination of choice, worth visiting at least once in a lifetime. It is the perfect destination to unwind and relax, skiing through the rich mountain terrain and absorbing nature’s brightest shades of light among the spotless sheets of sparkling snow.
